A Hard-Charging Follow-Up to 'Soma'
Nitepunk has released "Umbra," a distortion-soaked single that splits the difference between breakbeat and trap. The track arrives weeks after his collaboration with Skrillex, "Soma," opened the dubstep pioneer's surprise album of the same name. That track spent more than a year as one of the most sought-after IDs in the global electronic music community, first debuting during Skrillex's Ultra Miami set before ultimately arriving as the album's title cut.
Distortion and Drum Cadence Define the Sound
Named after the darkest core of a shadow, "Umbra" embraces a hard-charging drum cadence, punctuated by the Georgian-born beatsmith's riotous vocal ad-libs. A gritty wall of distortion sweeps across the mix like a rush of static, swelling and buckling with every phrase. It's a hybrid format Nitepunk has been perfecting for years, from the rave-ready arsenal of 2025's Lawless EP to the distorted contortions of his debut album, HUMAN.
Studio Sessions Fuel Speculation
Nitepunk was recently spotted in the studio with dubstep legends Skream and Benga, fueling continued speculation about where his sound is headed next. The producer, named to the EDM.com Class of 2026, continues to refine a style that treats electronic music like a contact sport.
"Umbra" is available now on streaming platforms.
