Fire Department Responds to Medical Emergency at Discovery Meadow

Fourteen people were taken to hospitals after falling ill during a concert headlined by The Chainsmokers on September 4 at Discovery Meadow, a park in downtown San José. The San José Fire Department said crews began receiving calls around 8:23pm reporting concertgoers in need of medical attention. Paramedics treated a number of attendees onsite while at least 10 were transported to a nearby hospital, according to police.

By Saturday morning, the fire department confirmed on social media that the total number taken for treatment had reached 14. Local police told NBC Bay Area the hospitalizations appeared to stem from suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues, though they did not specify what substances were involved or offer additional details about the conditions of those affected.

Concert Continued as Medical Response Unfolded

The concert began at 5pm and continued for several hours before fire officials declared the medical response over at 10:34pm. Neither the fire department nor city police released further information about the ages or identities of those hospitalized, and it was not immediately known whether any of the 14 required extended hospital stays.

The Chainsmokers have not released a statement or publicly commented on the show as of this writing.
