A 17-year-old suspect has been charged with one count of murder and six counts of attempted murder following a deadly shooting at an unsanctioned rave in Morgan Hill, California on July 25. The suspect was arrested August 27 after a month-long investigation aided by community tips submitted through an FBI digital line.

The Incident and Victims

The shooting occurred during a pop-up rave on a rural property along Hale Avenue, an event promoted largely through social media that drew hundreds of attendees. The party was tied to Twitch streamer NateDeBaiits, who was celebrating his birthday when the violence erupted.

Deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office were dispatched around 10:15pm after reports of intoxicated attendees and someone throwing bottles at passing vehicles. Police arrived to find partygoers fleeing after gunshots had been fired. 18-year-old Desiderio "Desi" Romero V was pronounced dead at the scene. Six surviving victims were transported to local hospitals.

Arrest and Evidence

Investigators credited community members who submitted tips, photos, and video through an FBI digital tip line with helping identify the suspect. Deputies executed a high-risk search warrant at a residence in Salinas, where the teenager was taken into custody without incident. Multiple weapons and ammunition were recovered at the scene.

The suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, appeared Monday at the Santa Clara County Juvenile Justice Courthouse in San Jose for a detention hearing. Prosecutors are seeking to have him tried as an adult. His next hearing is scheduled for September 21, where the district attorney's office plans to formally pursue adult charges.
