Amelie Lens Buys Grandmother a New Apartment

A Promise Kept

Amelie Lens shared an emotional announcement this week, revealing she bought her grandmother a new apartment and fulfilled a promise she had carried since childhood. Lens lost her mother at age five and was eventually taken in at eleven by her grandmother, who she said raised her as her own daughter.

"She became my whole world," Lens wrote. "We lived in a social house, it was always full of love and she decorated it so beautifully but my heart broke every single winter, watching her under layers of blankets because the heating barely worked. I hated watching her carry heavy groceries up all the stairs."

"Since I was a little girl, I made a silent promise to myself. My ultimate lifelong dream was to take care of the woman who sacrificed everything to take care of me."

A Surprise Reveal

The Belgian DJ shared a touching video of the moment she surprised her mémé in her new home, which she called a "dream apartment." The home also has space for Lens' aunts, who can now help with her grandmother's care.

Lens has spoken openly about her grandmother before. She tries to video call her every two days, which is the closest thing she has to a daily routine, she told Office Magazine back in 2020.

Lens is currently gearing up for the release of her debut album Aura, due September 4. She's also DJing at Ibiza's storied Ushuaïa club this weekend ahead of performances at Tomorrowland, HARD Summer, Creamfields and AMF, among other major festivals.
