The Set That Introduced 'Levels'
Tomorrowland has partnered with Pophouse and Avicii's estate to release his complete 2011 Mainstage set, a performance that until now existed mostly in shaky phone footage and bootleg audio. The legendary DJ took the stage on July 23, 2011 for his first appearance at the Belgian festival, playing 'Levels' three months before its official release on October 28 of that year.
The track's melody has since become so familiar that it can be hummed by people who have never even attended a festival. It passed one billion streams on Spotify in 2024 and took the top spot in Tomorrowland's 'Top 1000,' the fan-voted list of the most iconic anthems in the festival's history, for a fourth time this year.
A Long Relationship With the Festival
Avicii's 2011 appearance began a long relationship with Tomorrowland. He returned to its Mainstage every year from 2012 to 2015 prior to his tragic death by suicide in 2018, at the age of 28. Three of those later sets have been released on Apple Music in Spatial Audio.
This summer an Avicii Tribute Experience returned to the grounds, giving visitors a dedicated place to gather around his music.
The full performance is now available on Tomorrowland's official YouTube channel. The audio is also available in the festival's app as well as the Avicii Community.
