TL;DR

Beatport has introduced Indie Tech as a standalone genre category, separating it from Indie Dance. The platform describes the sound as club-oriented music built around punchy drums, prominent basslines, and bold synth hooks, with artists like Adam Ten, Mita Gami, Vintage Culture, and Max Styler leading the movement.

“Creating a new space allows both to thrive on their own terms – giving the Indie Dance community the clarity it deserves, while giving this new Indie Tech movement the room to grow and establish an identity of its own”

Beatport has launched a dedicated genre category for Indie Tech, positioning the sound as a distinct evolution from Indie Dance. The new section includes its own genre page, Top 100 chart, and curated release spotlight.

Defining the Sound

The platform describes Indie Tech as music built around punchy drums, prominent basslines and bold synth hooks. Adam Ten, Mita Gami, Vintage Culture, and Max Styler are among the artists Beatport named as representative of the style. Labels including Maccabi House, Higher Ground, and Diynamic have also been linked to the category.

The current Top 10 features tracks like Styler's "Body Shake" and Ten's "I Never Knew."

Community-Driven Decision

Beatport said the category emerged from conversations with artists, labels, and community members who wanted the style treated separately from Indie Dance. Raph Pujol, the company's VP of Global Curation, framed the move as a response to evolving sounds within the broader Indie Dance umbrella.

The new category is now live on Beatport's platform.
