TL;DR

Boris Brejcha announced his retirement from music in a video posted October 24, confirming 2027 as his final festival year and a 2028 headline tour as his last run of shows. The German producer, known for his High-Tech Minimal sound and Joker mask, has been considering the decision for several years and framed the announcement as an opportunity to give back to fans before exiting the industry.

The Announcement and Timeline

Boris Brejcha announced his retirement from music in a video statement posted to social media on Saturday, October 24. The German producer confirmed that 2027 will mark his final year playing festivals, followed by a headline tour titled Last Chapter: Becoming the Joker Tour 2028 that will serve as his last run of shows before leaving the industry. Specific dates and routing have not yet been revealed.

Two Years in the Making

Brejcha said the decision has been in consideration for several years, with the last two spent specifically planning what life after music might look like. In the video, he teased the upcoming tour by writing its title into an ornate book on camera and framed the next two years as an opportunity to give back to his audience.

High-Tech Minimal and the Joker Mask

Born in Ludwigshafen, Germany in 1981, Brejcha survived the Ramstein air show disaster at age six and carries scars from the burns he suffered. A middle school friend's Thunderdome CD pulled him toward electronic production at age twelve. He released his first tracks and played his first show in 2006 at Universo Paralello Festival in Brazil, the same trip that inspired his Joker mask, drawn from Brazilian Carnival imagery. Brejcha coined the term High-Tech Minimal to describe his sound and built one of the more recognizable brands in techno by playing only his own productions at his sets.

Career Milestones

His North American resume includes a Coachella Sahara stage set, back-to-back Red Rocks appearances in 2023 and 2025, and a performance at the Hollywood Bowl backed by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He has drawn more than 18,000 fans to Mexico City's Palacio de los Deportes. Brejcha released his tenth studio album on Ultra Music and currently sits at No. 42 on the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list.

With 2027 marking his last festival season and 2028 closing things out entirely, the next two years represent a final chapter for an artist who spent two decades turning a mask and a self-coined genre into a global touring career.
