The Joker's Final Bow
Boris Brejcha has announced plans to retire his iconic masked persona "The Joker" after 2028, bringing an end to the character that defined his career as a high-tech minimal pioneer. In an Instagram post, the producer confirmed that 2027 will be his final year performing at festivals, followed by a farewell tour titled Last Chapter: Becoming The Joker that will run through the end of 2028.
Brejcha made clear the decision is not health-related nor driven by waning passion for music. He wrote that the farewell is about closing the chapter on something amazing and preserving a happy ending, adding, "My papa always said you should stop when things are at their best."
A New Chapter or Just a New Mask
The announcement carefully frames the retirement as specific to "The Joker" persona, leaving the door open for future projects. Brejcha's wording suggests this may not be a full exit from music, but rather a transition that allows him to explore deeper into his musical background under a different guise.
The mask itself originated at his debut performance at Brazil's Universo Paralello Festival in 2006, inspired by the ornate designs of the Carnival of Venice. That performance marked his first encounter with a massive crowd, and the persona became inseparable from his development of high-tech minimal—a fusion of minimal groove, euphoric melodies, and progressive house and trance synths.
Farewell Tour Details Pending
Brejcha plans to host as many shows as possible before the curtain falls, describing the run as a thank-you to the fans who supported him throughout the years. Specific dates and locations for Last Chapter: Becoming The Joker have not yet been announced.
With two years remaining before his final festival appearances, fans have a limited window to catch the high-tech minimal architect in his signature form. The tour will conclude at the end of 2028, marking the official close of Boris Brejcha's tenure as The Joker.
