Security Overhaul After Fatal Incident

Brownies & Lemonade has confirmed that its show this Saturday at the Seattle Center will proceed with heightened security following last weekend's mass shooting, which left three people dead. The fatal shooting occurred Sunday, July 26 during Bite of Seattle, a food festival held on the same grounds. Two died at the scene and four others, including a two-year-old boy, were taken to Harborview Medical Center with gunshot wounds, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

Attendees reported that Bite of Seattle had no metal detectors or security checkpoints upon entry. Saturday's event hosted by Brownies & Lemonade is ticketed and will feature perimeter fencing, metal detector screening and on-site law enforcement throughout the day, per KOMO News.

Coordination with Local Authorities

The organization released a statement across its social media channels this week, noting it has been coordinating with the venue, the Seattle Police Department, the Seattle Fire Department and its own security partners to review and strengthen its existing safety plan.

A 15-year-old was arrested for his suspected role in the shooting and has been formally charged with first-degree assault with a firearm and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. A second suspect, 19-year-old Junior Cee Niko Semo, died at the scene while a third remains at large, according to local reports. However, there is no outstanding threat to the community, Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis said at a press conference.
