Day-Long Program Combines Panels, Networking and Performance
Change the Beat will make its London debut at fabric on October 15. The global non-profit supports women and gender-expansive artists in electronic music. More than 40 artists, industry leaders and organisations will take part throughout the day. The program includes industry panels, networking and the Women Who Shaped Electronic Music photo exhibition. Later in the evening, a dedicated club event will take place in fabric's Main Room. Running from 3:00 PM–3:00 AM, the event will focus on greater access, opportunities and representation across electronic music.
Three Industry Panels Cover Bookings, Labels and Representation
Hosted by Sunita Dhaliwal of The Everyday Agency, the daytime program will feature three panels focused on building a career in electronic music. First, Katie Knight will moderate How to Get Booked as a DJ in London. The panel includes Alex Holland of Broadwick Live and Martha Bolton of Not Bad For A Girl. Pete Jordan of Junction 2 / LWE and Steven Braines of HE.SHE.THEY will also join the discussion.
Meanwhile, Sydney Blu will moderate How to Get Signed to an A-List Dance Label. Joining her are Andy Henderson of Southern Fried / Knee Deep In Sound and Chris Goss of Hospital Records. Miles Shackleton of Toolroom and Daniel Curpen of Anjunadeep will also take part. Finally, Finlay Johnson will moderate How to Get Representation: Managers & Agents. The session includes Frances Shillito of Night Department, Kal Jhugroo of CAA and Shanae Dennis of The Team. Lucy Harrower of Frame Artists completes the panel.
Photo Exhibition and Live Sets for Emerging Artists
From 7:00 PM–10:00 PM, the Change the Beat industry mixer will take place with AFEM, Pete Tong DJ Academy, Not Bad For A Girl and Beatport. During the session, artists and industry professionals will have the chance to meet and network. Emerging DJs from Not Bad For A Girl and Pete Tong DJ Academy will also get a live performance opportunity alongside N1NJA.
Alongside the mixer, the evening will feature the Women Who Shaped Electronic Music photo exhibition. It celebrates 18 artists who have contributed to electronic music across different generations. Among them are ANNA, Annie Mac, Crystal Waters, DJ Minx, DJ Paulette, DJ Rap, Eli & Fur, Honey Dijon and Ida Engberg. The exhibition also includes Lisa Lashes, Maya Jane Coles, Nicole Moudaber, Sam Divine, Sister Bliss, Smokin Jo, Superjane and Ultra Naté.
TSHA and Sydney Blu Headline Club Night
From 10:00 PM–3:00 AM, the event will continue in fabric's Main Room with TSHA, Kitty Amor, Sydney Blu, Emily Nash and N1NJA. Proceeds from the club night will support Change the Beat's international artist development program. The initiative provides education, mentorship and opportunities for women and gender-expansive artists.
Since launching in 2021 as 23by23, Change the Beat has grown into a community of more than 1,200 members. Its work now covers the UK, US, Canada and Europe. Alumni have released music through Armada, Drumcode, Anjunadeep, Anjunabeats, Toolroom and Insomniac Records. Other labels include HE.SHE.THEY, Dirtybird, mau5trap and REALM. Looking ahead, the organisation aims to help 300 artists secure label opportunities by 2028.
Change the Beat will take place at fabric, 77A Charterhouse Street, London on Thursday, October 15. Industry panels will run from 3:00 PM–7:00 PM. The industry mixer and photo exhibition will continue from 7:00 PM–10:00 PM, followed by the club night from 10:00 PM–3:00 AM.
