TL;DR

Chase & Status and Skrillex have released their first official collaboration, 'Essa Ta Quente,' a Portuguese-language track that trades the duo's signature drum & bass for breakbeat and funk carioca. The single follows a preview at Skrillex's Boomtown headline set in August and marks a stylistic departure built on 808s and Brazilian influences.

A Breakbeat Departure from Drum & Bass

Chase & Status and Skrillex have released 'Essa Ta Quente,' their first official collaboration. While the drum & bass duo has remixed Skrillex's music before, including the Grammy-winning 'Rumble,' this marks the first time the artists share a featured credit.

The track leans into breakbeat and funk carioca rather than the frantic drum & bass Chase & Status are known for. A bouncing rhythm built on thick 808s anchors a Portuguese vocal that simmers with menace, while Skrillex's signature growls slice through the mix in bursts rather than dominating it.

Brazilian Influences and a Long-Awaited Team-Up

Chase & Status explained the collaboration's roots in a statement. "We've been friends with Sonny for years and finally, we are releasing a collaboration that's long overdue," they said. "Born out of our love for Brazilian rap and baile funk, we're always looking to explore new styles and push new sounds."

Fans first caught wind of the track on August 16, when Skrillex brought Chase & Status onstage during his closing headline set on the Hydro XL stage at Boomtown. Neither act confirmed a collaboration at the time, and clips of the performance circulated on social media before today's release.

Prolific Output from Both Acts

The release continues a busy year for Skrillex, who dropped his Soma album in June before releasing collaborations with Solomun ('Rumpta') and MPH ('Mirage'), among others. Chase & Status reunited with their 'Baddadan' collaborator IRAH for 'Disgruntled' in July before releasing 'Gone Too Far' alongside Debbie a month later.

'Essa Ta Quente' is available now on streaming platforms.
