From Alt-Rock Radio to the Dancefloor
Chris Lake, Chris Lorenzo and Kenny Beats have released "Long Jacket," a tech house cover of CAKE's 2001 alt-rock classic "Short Skirt / Long Jacket." The original became a radio staple after the turn of the century and later served as the theme song for the hit comedy series Chuck. The new version reimagines it as a bouncy, dancefloor-ready house track that has been turning heads in DJ sets for nearly a year, including at Lorenzo's EDC Las Vegas set and Lake's three-night NYC run earlier this summer. The longtime collaborators also rinsed "Long Jacket" as Anti Up, their collaborative alias, at last year's Portola Music Festival.
Kenny Beats Crosses Into Dance Music
It's not every day you see Kenny Beats on a dance release. The chart-topping beatsmith cut his teeth in the early-2010s as half of the trap music duo LOUDPVCK before pivoting to hip-hop and establishing himself as one of the genre's most influential producers. He's worked behind the boards for Denzel Curry, Vince Staples, Gucci Mane and many more before crossing into rock and alternative with Weezer, Geese and Toro y Moi, among others. That cross-genre fluency makes him a natural fit for a record like "Long Jacket."
A Busy Year for Lake and Lorenzo
The new single arrives amid another prolific stretch for both Lake and Lorenzo. This year, Lake has dropped "Party Time" (with Tiga), "Make You Fight" (with ATRIP) and an official remix of Taylor Swift's "Opalite," not to mention two tracks on Skrillex's SOMA album. Lorenzo released "In This Bih" (with Kah-Lo) and "Invisible" (with Jazzy), two of the year's most popular house tracks.
"Long Jacket" is available now on streaming platforms.
