Spanning Decades and Styles
The opener, Catch Me in Amsterdam, sets the record in motion with a disco tilt, threading light funk plucks and bright strings beneath a smoky vocal from Sirolf. Paradise reunites Cloonee with Chris Lake, who signed him to Black Book Records back in 2020. A soulful vocal and rolling bassline underpin bars from Aliyah's Interlude, the Atlanta artist whose 2023 breakout It Girl paired her rapping with a '90s-style house production.
Collaborations with Prospa and Franky Rizardo
The album's preceding singles trace an equally wide range of influences with tracks like Good Girl, his latest with Prospa, which layers Tristan Henry's topline over spoken-word from Melynda Randel. His Franky Rizardo collaboration, Get Up and Dance, draws from Third World's 1978 reggae-disco rendition of Now That We Found Love while Back of the Club lifts its hook from Mashonda's R&B single of the same name, co-written with Swizz Beatz.
Building on Billboard Milestone
Those reference points span decades and genres, giving the album's retrospective premise a reach beyond Cloonee's own catalog. The broader project also arrives in the wake of Free Your Mind, his CircoLoco single with Prospa. Although absent from the album, the track marked a milestone for both acts, earning each their first No. 1 on Billboard's Dance Airplay chart.
Are You Still You? is out now on Black Book Records.
