Authorized Anthology Taps Creative Circle
Daft Punk are the subjects of an authorized special edition of Métal Hurlant, the influential comics anthology founded in Paris in 1975. Published by Humanoids, the 272-page collection enlists more than 30 creators to reinterpret the retired duo's imagery and history through short comics, illustrations, and essays.
The anthology reconnects members of Daft Punk's creative circle. Longtime creative director Cédric Hervet and artist Warren Fu, who collaborated on the visual identity of Random Access Memories, designed a limited-edition cover. Another cover features artwork by Anuj Shrestha.
Speculative Fiction Over Biography
Rather than presenting a conventional biography, the collection approaches the duo's legacy as a springboard for speculative fiction. Some stories revisit moments from their career while others explore recurring themes of technology, identity, and the relationship between humans and machines.
The territory is familiar ground for Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, whose recordings have long been inseparable from their cinematic ambitions. Their 2003 animated film Interstella 5555, created in collaboration with manga legend Leiji Matsumoto, translated the entirety of Discovery into a science-fiction narrative before 2006's Electroma film followed two robots attempting to become human.
Fan Portraits and Release Timeline
Humanoids is offering fans a chance to become part of the story, with a limited number of portrait slots priced at $249.99 that place their likenesses in an imaginary Daft Punk concert scene illustrated by Florian Breuil. The opportunity is available as an add-on when pre-ordering through the publisher.
The anthology is set for release in France on October 14th. English-language editions are expected to ship in January 2027 ahead of a wider bookstore release in February.
