TL;DR

Dutch trance producer Jeffrey Sutorius has won back the rights to perform as Dash Berlin after a five-year legal dispute over ownership of the stage name. The business disagreement forced him to tour and release music under his birth name during that period, leaving fans confused about which artist name to follow.

Dash Berlin has reclaimed the stage name he built over fifteen years, ending a legal dispute that forced the Dutch trance producer to tour and release music as Jeffrey Sutorius for half a decade. In a recent interview on SiriusXM's BPM, Sutorius detailed the business disagreement that stripped him of the rights to perform under the Dash Berlin moniker.

The Five-Year Dispute

The conflict stemmed from a disagreement over ownership of the Dash Berlin name itself, leaving fans uncertain which artist name to follow on lineups and streaming platforms. When asked about the timeline, Sutorius confirmed the length of the battle: "Let's say a good 5 years. Something like that."

Host Geronimo recalled encountering the producer during that period and witnessing his frustration. "I remember it was really frustrating for you because, you know, it's who you are and who you helped to create and all of a sudden you're blocked from it," Geronimo said.

Resolution and Fan Response

Sutorius acknowledged the professional and personal toll of the situation but emphasized the importance of the resolution. "It's been an awkward situation. It's been a professional, uncomfortable situation. It's been an emotional situation, personally as well, but many people come around now," he said. "They say, 'Okay, justice takes time,' and that's where I stand a little bit. You know, justice takes time, and that's where we are right now."

He stressed that the outcome matters equally to his audience. "This is not only me. This is also the fans, and the fans are super happy," Dash Berlin said. "It's like this giant tsunami of positivity when I look at my social media, how happy people are that I am able to work as Dash Berlin again and in these circumstances, with everything happening in the world, I'm just glad to be surrounded with people and I'm in the epicenter of something positive, something happy, especially now."

Sutorius is now performing and releasing music under the Dash Berlin name once again.
