TL;DR

Q-dance has cancelled Defqon.1 2026 after the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute issued a Code Red extreme heat warning. The festival in Biddinghuizen had already cut Friday and Saturday day tickets to reduce capacity, but the national weather alert forced a full cancellation. Ticket refunds will be processed, with additional compensation details expected after the weekend.

Q-dance has cancelled Defqon.1 2026 entirely after the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) issued a Code Red warning for extreme heat across the Netherlands. The festival, held annually in Biddinghuizen, had already scaled back Friday and Saturday day tickets earlier in the week to reduce capacity, but the national weather alert escalated the situation beyond crowd management.

From Capacity Cuts to Full Cancellation

The decision came in stages. Q-dance initially cancelled Friday and Saturday day tickets to limit access to weekend pass holders, hoping to manage shade, water points, and facilities more safely. But once KNMI issued its Code Red warning—reserved for weather that poses serious disruption or danger to public health, transport, and large outdoor events—the remaining festival days could no longer proceed. Code Red is the highest alert level used by the Dutch national weather, climate, and seismology institute.

The Holy Grounds closed from Friday, June 26, while parts of the site and The Wasted Lands remained temporarily open without music so attendees already on site could prepare to leave. Anyone not yet at the festival was told not to travel to Biddinghuizen.

What Happens Next for Ticket Holders

For those already at Defqon.1 2026, parts of the Holy Grounds and The Wasted Lands stayed open until 03:00 Friday morning. The Camping Grounds and part of the Festival Grounds remained accessible on Friday without music, with essential facilities available to give attendees time to rest, pack, and arrange transport home.

Q-dance confirmed that tickets purchased through official channels will be refunded, with details on possible additional compensation expected after the weekend. Bracelet balance refunds will follow the existing process, with early refund requests available from July 2. Merchandise pick-up orders will be addressed separately next week.

Defqon.1 is one of hard dance's largest annual gatherings, drawing thousands of international visitors for hardstyle, hardcore, and rawstyle across a multi-day festival weekend. The 2026 edition ended abruptly, but Q-dance has prioritized visitor safety as the Code Red heat warning remains in effect.
