Three Rooms, Three Hours, One Journey
The recently opened MiNT XL in Leeds hosted a Halloween weekend event headlined by Ewan McVicar, who delivered a three-hour set in the venue's Ballroom. The Scottish DJ shared the bill with Special Request, Lammer, and Hayley Smith across three rooms, with the crowd maintaining energy through a 6am finish.
Before McVicar took the decks, Leeds legend Special Request—the alias of Paul Woolford—warmed up the Ballroom with what attendees described as one of the night's highlights. The venue's no-phone policy and Funktion One Vero sound system set the stage for the headliner's extended performance.
Classics, Curveballs, and Closing Singalongs
McVicar's three-hour set moved through house subgenres, techno, and trance, blending his own tracks 'Heather Park' and 'Miracle Makers' with unexpected selections. He dropped The Prodigy's 1992 track 'Out of Space' and Jeff Mills' 'The Bells', taking the crowd from familiar anthems to deeper cuts.
The set closed outside the dance music lane entirely. McVicar played ABBA's 'Voulez-Vous' followed by Toto's 'Africa' as his final track, with the crowd singing nearly every word.
A Personal Moment for the Headliner
The following day, McVicar reflected on the performance in an Instagram Story, writing that over the past five years he rarely gets to be "Ewan" rather than the professional persona. He added that the Leeds set was "so so special."
The Halloween weekend appearance marked one of the early showcase nights for MiNT XL, which recently opened in Leeds. The venue's three-room layout and extended hours allowed the event to run until 6am.
