TL;DR

Fatboy Slim, Felix da Housecat and Carola have released 'Funk Drunk' on Southern Fried Records. The track originated as a live mashup of Carola's 2024 single 'ABC' and Felix da Housecat's 'Funky Dunk,' which Fatboy Slim tested in his DJ sets. Featuring vocals from 7KY, the collaboration went through at least five versions before its final release.

“I grew up listening to artists who helped build electronic music into what it is today”

From DJ Booth to Studio

The track began as a mashup, with Fatboy Slim dropping Carola's 2024 single 'ABC' over Felix da Housecat's 'Funky Dunk' during his DJ sets. The crowd response pushed the edit from experiment to official release.

"What seemed like a simple idea actually took a lot of work," Carola said in a press release shared with EDM.com. "We went through at least five different versions before reaching the final result."

Chicago House Filtered Through Brighton

The finished track is a punchy, funk-forward house cut featuring 7KY, who also appeared on Carola's 'ABC.' The title nods directly to Felix da Housecat's source, and the production plays like a relay—Chicago house filtered through Brighton's big-beat era and handed to one of Brazil's fastest-rising talents.

The pairing is not a one-off for Carola, who was named by EDM.com as one of the best music producers of 2022. She appeared on the remix of Fatboy Slim's 2001 classic 'Ya Mama' last year.

A Tribute and a Marker

"I grew up listening to artists who helped build electronic music into what it is today," Carola said, casting the track as both a tribute to house history and a marker of where it goes next.

'Funk Drunk' is out now via Fatboy Slim's Southern Fried Records.
