Icarus-Inspired Collaboration Arrives on Catch & Release
FISHER and LAUREL have released 'Staring at the Sun,' a new single on the Australian producer's own Catch & Release label. The track has been a fixture in FISHER's sets from EDC Las Vegas to Tomorrowland and his Ibiza residency over recent months.
Built around buoyant piano chords, the production pairs bright, bouncy energy with lyrical melancholy. LAUREL's indie-inflected vocal explores the push and pull of an all-consuming but unreachable love, drawing from the Greek myth of Icarus.
"To me, the song is about meeting someone who feels like your version of the sun," LAUREL said in a statement. "You can't savor them, as it would be dangerous, but you also can't live without them, because that would also mean the end of life. So you're stuck in this in-between state, but in the end you're so mesmerized by them that you have no choice but to stare into the sun anyway, even if it were to mean your own downfall."
FISHER's Momentum Continues
The release caps a packed few months for the Australian house producer. Last weekend he performed at Goldenvoice's Head Trip alongside Chris Lake, delivering one of the festival's most talked-about sets despite a lightning-shortened first night.
Earlier this year, FISHER scored three consecutive number ones on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart with 'Rain,' 'Favour,' and 'What a Life.'
'Staring at the Sun' is out now on all streaming platforms. FISHER plays two nights at Forest Hills Stadium in New York City this weekend before heading to multiple global festival dates.
