Cancer Treatment Underway for Avicii's Companion
Liam, the dog Avicii and longtime friend and photographer Sean Eriksson adopted from a shelter together, is undergoing cancer treatment. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover the cost of care, with the financial burden falling largely on Filippo Moretti, the trainer who has cared for Liam since Bergling's death in 2018.
According to Eriksson, Liam's cancer treatment is going well. In the campaign's description, Eriksson writes that Bergling once told him Liam was his first experience of unconditional love.
A Dog Central to Avicii's Story
The fundraiser follows a May report that Liam had survived a tumor scare, making the new campaign an emotional development for fans who have followed the dog's life since Bergling's passing. The legendary DJ, 28, died by suicide in 2018 after grappling with mental health struggles contrived largely from a grueling tour schedule.
Eriksson notes that Liam was central to "The Crowning of Prince Liam," a road trip during which Avicii's track "Without You" was created. He also describes Liam as a source of emotional support for Bergling during periods of anxiety.
Moretti told EDM.com in a 2022 interview, "Liam is very well, but he will always miss Tim."
Funds to Support Care and Possible Reunion
Eriksson says donations will first go toward Liam's health and care. If any funds remain, the hope is to help Moretti and Liam meet some of the people who have followed Liam's journey over the past decade.
As of this writing, the campaign has raised kr17,680 of its kr100,000 goal, or roughly $1,820 of about $10,300 USD.
