TL;DR

Galantis has released 'Do You Mind,' a rework of Paleface featuring Kyla's 2007 UK bassline track, via Counter Records. The single is the second from the forthcoming EP 'The Devil's Tax Return: Volume 1,' due October 16, which features reworks of songs by Frankie Valli, The Killers, Feist, and War On Drugs. Christian Karlsson's MIDSOMMAR event series continues this summer with stops in Chicago and New York City.

“Some records feel untouchable because they already captured a moment so perfectly”

A Rework Rooted in Respect

Galantis has released 'Do You Mind' via Ninja Tune's Counter Records, marking the second single from the forthcoming EP The Devil's Tax Return: Volume 1, set for release on October 16. The track is a rework of Paleface featuring Kyla's 2007 UK bassline and R&B original, a record that gained wider recognition through Crazy Cousinz's 2009 remix and later when Drake sampled Kyla's vocal for 'One Dance' in 2016.

Christian Karlsson's approach centers on Kyla's melody and vocal, rebuilding the production from scratch rather than layering over the original. "Some records feel untouchable because they already captured a moment so perfectly," Karlsson says. "Instead of trying to completely reinvent it, I wanted to celebrate what made it so special while giving it a new life. It's a record I've loved for years and I like the idea of taking care of the music that we already know and love."

An EP of Personal Touchstones

'Do You Mind' follows 'Stay Alive,' released in May. The EP spans reworked material from Frankie Valli, The Killers, Feist, and War On Drugs—songs Karlsson cites as the soundtrack to his life when he was founding Miike Snow, the indie-dance trio behind platinum records 'Animal' and 'Genghis Khan.' The selections reflect a period when creative freedom was still new territory for him.

Before Miike Snow, Karlsson worked as a top-line pop producer under the Bloodshy moniker alongside Avant (Pontus Winnberg). That run included co-writing and producing Britney Spears' 'Toxic,' which won the GRAMMY for Best Dance Recording, as well as 'Piece of Me,' 'Radar,' and material for Madonna and Katy Perry. The EP title—The Devil's Tax Return—is Karlsson's tongue-in-cheek framing for working within familiar territory while seeking something fresh.

Summer Tour Dates and MIDSOMMAR Series

Galantis recently played Electric Forest and the San Francisco edition of MIDSOMMAR, his own event series built around themes of friendship and new beginnings. The MIDSOMMAR run continues in Chicago on August 22 and New York City on September 11 and 12, with festival dates at World DJ Festival in Japan on July 5 and Veld in Toronto on August 1 also on the calendar.

The Devil's Tax Return: Volume 1 arrives October 16 and includes six tracks: 'Stay Alive,' 'Do You Mind,' 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You,' 'When You Were Young,' '1234,' and 'Red Eyes.'
