TL;DR

Goldenvoice has unveiled the lineup for the inaugural Ocean Way Festival, scheduled for September 26-27 at "The Sandbox" south of the Santa Monica Pier. The two-day event will feature headliners The Killers and Olivia Dean alongside electronic acts SG Lewis, BLOND:ISH, Austin Millz, Carlita, Nala, Coco & Breezy, and Khruangbin. The festival is named after Ocean Way Recording, the studio founded by audio engineer Allen Sides nearly 50 years ago.

“The Pier and the businesses, nonprofits, workers, fishermen, and visitors who all make up the Pier community are the heart of our local tourism industry”

“When I wrote the motion to direct our City staff to explore bringing a music festival to the Pier and Beach, I worked with those businesses to learn from past events at the Pier and asked staff to co-create a festival experience with the Pier community. This needs to be successful for everyone, not just Goldenvoice.”

A Beachfront Festival Named After a Recording Legacy

Goldenvoice, the production company behind Coachella, has announced the lineup for Ocean Way Festival, a new two-day event set for September 26-27 at the Santa Monica Pier. The festival takes its name from Ocean Way Recording, the studio founded by audio engineer Allen Sides nearly 50 years ago after he began producing in a garage.

The inaugural edition will take over "The Sandbox," a 550,000-square-foot stretch of sand south of the pier. Headliners include The Killers and Olivia Dean, with electronic music representation from SG Lewis, BLOND:ISH, Austin Millz, Carlita, Nala, Coco & Breezy, and Khruangbin, among others.

City Council Eyes Multi-Year Run

Santa Monica City Council member Dan Hall, who introduced the motion to launch the festival, emphasized the economic importance of the event for the local community. "The Pier and the businesses, nonprofits, workers, fishermen, and visitors who all make up the Pier community are the heart of our local tourism industry," Hall said. "When I wrote the motion to direct our City staff to explore bringing a music festival to the Pier and Beach, I worked with those businesses to learn from past events at the Pier and asked staff to co-create a festival experience with the Pier community. This needs to be successful for everyone, not just Goldenvoice."

A staff report issued in April indicates the Santa Monica City Council is planning for Ocean Way to return in 2027 and 2028, noting the festival "aligns with the City's broader strategy to curate high-quality cultural offerings during the region's peak event cycle" during that timeframe. Tickets are now available.
