Single-Stage Format Resonated With Multi-Generational Crowd
Goldenvoice brought Head Trip to the Empire Polo Club over the weekend, assembling a lineup of electronic music heavyweights around a single-stage format. The festival featured Skrillex, Calvin Harris, and Swedish House Mafia among its headliners, with no overlapping sets between the day's top-billed acts.
The decision to eliminate scheduling conflicts allowed attendees to experience the full roster without the usual festival trade-offs. Fans from their twenties to their fifties told organizers the event rated a 10 out of 10, citing the ability to stay rooted in one location and experience the event as a continuous journey rather than a logistical puzzle.
French Designer Brought Sci-Fi Aesthetic to the Desert
French stage designer Romain Pissenem and creative production company High Scream built a sci-fi-inspired environment that marked a tonal departure from Coachella's usual aesthetic. The mainstage screen, lighting, lasers, and sound system combined to create what attendees described as a cinematic experience, while dust conditions remained notably lighter than typical festivals at the venue.
Floating Points brought his Sunflower Sound System installation to North America for the first time. The 360-degree listening environment, developed with collaborators including FIG G, Michael Parker, and Cosmic Tom Smith, offered an acoustically treated dome filled with tapestries and immersive sound design. The programming spanned house, techno, and dub, providing an intimate counterpoint to the mainstage.
Lightning Forced Calvin Harris Cancellation on Day One
The festival hit a weather obstacle on opening night. After sets from Seth Troxler b2b Ben Sterling and Peggy Gou b2b Four Tet, a lightning alert halted FISHER and Chris Lake's Under Construction set mid-performance. Organizers instructed attendees to leave the venue or shelter in their vehicles, and within thirty minutes confirmed that no further performances would take place that night.
Calvin Harris never reached the stage on day one. Goldenvoice adjusted the schedule and brought Harris back for day two, salvaging what many attendees had traveled across the country to see.
Head Trip was billed as a one-time-only event. Whether Goldenvoice revisits the concept remains an open question, but the festival's reception suggests the formula has staying power.
