A Decade-Long Friendship Comes to Fruition
GORDO and WhoMadeWho have released a new single called ENERGY, out now via Maison Arts. The collaboration pairs the GRAMMY-nominated producer with the Danish trio known for their emotionally driven, genre-blurring approach to club music. A music video for the track is also available on YouTube.
The backstory stretches back to 2012, when GORDO, born Diamante Blackmon, and WhoMadeWho's Tomas Barfod first met in an LA studio complex. At the time, Barfod and his bandmates were carving out their lane in indie-leaning club music, while Blackmon was still working under the DJ Carnage name, producing hip-hop and EDM. Different scenes, different sounds, but enough mutual respect to keep the connection alive for over a decade before they finally entered the studio together.
Peak-Time Euphoria from Two Distinct Worlds
The track is light, euphoric, and built for peak-time sets, landing at a moment when both acts are riding high. GORDO has spent the last couple years diving into his Latin roots with the DIAMANTE album and the NO HAY VERANO SIN GORDO EP, while WhoMadeWho has been touring behind Kiss & Forget, their eighth studio album, and picking up hardware along the way including a DJ Award and a Best Live Performer nod at the Beatport Awards.
Barfod framed the track as the payoff of a friendship that predates either artist's current era. "I met Diamante in LA back in 2012. I lived there in that period, we were working in the same studio complex. I remember his insane energy and raw talent, but also a knowledge and curiosity towards the underground club scene, even though back then he was producing hip-hop and EDM as DJ Carnage," he said. "Back then we were from very different places in the club scene, but I always respected him a lot. Lately our paths have been moving closer, and after many years of flirting, we finally did a song together, and it's the perfect combination of our combined frequencies. Light, fun and high ENERGY."
Two Acts at Career Highs
GORDO's resume has grown well beyond his Carnage-era output. The GRAMMY-nominated producer picked up his nomination for work on Diplo's self-titled album, and his production credits include Drake, Feid, Maluma, T-Pain, Tiesto, Eladio Carrion, Bad Gyal, and Leon Bridges. He was also a key producer on Drake's 2026 album Maid of Honor, contributing to nine tracks, following his earlier work on Honestly, Nevermind and the Hot 100 hit Sticky. That run pushed him to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Producers chart.
WhoMadeWho, made up of Tomas Hoffding, Tomas Barfod, and Jeppe Kjellberg, has built its own lane over eight albums, with releases and remixes tied to Kompakt, Innervisions, and Life and Death, plus their own imprint, The Moment. Their live show has become something of an event in itself, with past tours featuring stage design built in partnership with BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) and headline dates at Copenhagen's Forum, Berlin's Tempodrom, and Paris' L'Olympia. Their Cercle set at Abu Simbel has racked up more than 8 million views online.
GORDO is currently mid-run on a packed summer tour schedule that includes stops at Awakenings Festival, Scorpios Mykonos, Untold Festival, and a string of beach clubs and festivals across Spain, Italy, France, and beyond through August.
