TL;DR

Bass music producer Jade Cicada (Skyler Alecson) has announced an indefinite hiatus from solo touring, citing creative burnout from constant touring. He will perform two final solo shows at Red Rocks and Otherworld before focusing on his collaborative project Wonky Llama with Schmoop, which debuted live at Secret Dreams Festival and has more shows planned for 2027.

“That perpetual countdown has taken a toll on my creativity. I miss the feeling of having nothing planned, writing purely for the moment.”

“Sharing the pressure made everything easier and reminded me of simpler times.”

“Let a goat rest”

Final solo shows before stepping away

Jade Cicada has announced an indefinite hiatus from solo touring, revealing the decision in an Instagram post ahead of his last two performances. The bass music producer, whose real name is Skyler Alecson, said years of constant touring have taken a toll on his creativity.

Alecson will close out his solo career with a co-headline show alongside Mickman at Red Rocks Amphitheatre this weekend, followed by a performance at Otherworld, an immersive art museum in Columbus, Ohio.

Wonky Llama project continues

Alecson is not leaving music entirely. He pointed to Wonky Llama, his collaborative project with fellow bass producer Schmoop, as a source of renewed energy. The duo, who first released the Noms EP in 2014, made their live debut earlier this fall at Secret Dreams Festival and have confirmed additional shows planned for 2027.

The announcement drew support from artists including Levity and Of The Trees, both part of EDM.com's Class of 2024. Of The Trees wrote in the comments, "Let a goat rest." Levity added, "We love you. The shared pressure is def a very real thing and love to hear you're excited again on WL."

Another shift for experimental bass scene

The hiatus marks another notable departure for the experimental bass community. Tipper, widely regarded as one of the genre's pioneers, retired last year, leaving artists like Jade Cicada, Mickman and Resonant Language to fill the void. With Alecson stepping back from solo touring, the scene faces another significant absence.

In his Instagram post, Alecson wrote that he would return "when it feels right," and that in the meantime, he'll continue making music.
