Summit Posts Screenshots of Alleged Remix Conversations
John Summit has publicly called out Pete Tong over a dispute surrounding his remix of "Missing" by Everything But The Girl, claiming that Tong had promised to release his version before moving forward with a separate version alongside Franky Rizardo. In a series of posts shared on X, Summit said he had been working on an orchestral version of the remix and later posted screenshots that appeared to show conversations about sending over his session files and arranging live strings for the project.
The messages give more context to why Summit believes he was not simply one of several artists interested in working on "Missing." From his side, the issue appears to be that he had already been discussing a specific version of the song with Tong, including the possibility of sending over his session so parts of the arrangement could be developed further and recorded to the right tempo. The screenshots also mention recreating parts, working out the vocal, and recording orchestra sections, which makes the conversation look like a project that had gone beyond being just a casual remix idea.
Summit Clarifies Dispute Is With Tong, Not Rizardo
Summit clarified that his issue is with Tong and not Franky Rizardo, who he said may not have known the full context. He also appeared to ask whether he could still bring his orchestral "Missing" moment to Tofte Manor with his own orchestra, which adds another layer to why he seems frustrated by the situation. The center of the dispute remains Summit's claim about what happened between him and Tong before the Rizardo version surfaced.
Why the Dispute Has Drawn Wider Attention
Part of why this dispute has gained so much attention is because Tong is not a small name in dance music. He has spent decades as one of the most influential broadcasters and tastemakers in electronic music, especially through his long running work with BBC Radio 1, where he helped introduce countless records and artists to a wider audience. For artists coming up in the scene, getting support from Tong has often meant more than just another radio play.
Summit has made it clear that he looked up to Tong, which makes his frustration less about competition and more about trust. When a younger artist believes he is working with someone he respects, especially on a classic song like "Missing," the expectations around credit, communication, and final release plans become even more important.
Pete Tong has not publicly responded at the time of writing. The dispute has raised questions about credit, remix ownership, and how unfinished collaborative ideas are handled behind the scenes.
