Citadel founder Ken Griffin has acquired Mana Wynwood for roughly $1.1 billion, according to The Real Deal. The purchase encompasses about 30 acres at 318 Northwest 23rd Street, including the convention center, Wynwood Marketplace, and RC Cola Plant.
Miami Music Week Hub Changes Hands
All three spaces hosted events during Miami Music Week in March. The convention center alone held four parties: a Deadbeats 10-year anniversary show, a Brownies & Lemonade night, Crankdat's Get Cranked Miami, and the Monstercat-presented closer OUTRO.
Developer Moishe Mana confirmed the cash deal, saying talks began about three years ago. He said the university was one reason he agreed to sell. "This [will create] a huge impact on South Florida," he said. "We needed a university of caliber in Miami, and this is one of the reasons that I agreed to give up the dream of Mana Wynwood."
Carnegie Mellon Campus Coming to Wynwood
The acquisition will fund a new Carnegie Mellon University campus in the neighborhood. Griffin's $3 billion gift to CMU includes about $2 billion for the campus, which aims to begin enrolling students in 2028, pending regulatory approvals.
Griffin discussed the university plans with the Financial Times. "This will be in some sense the East Coast answer to what happens in Silicon Valley," he told the publication.
Events to Continue Through Next Year
Mana's team will keep operating the convention center and other event spaces, including Mana Wynwood 320, for at least the next year, according to The Real Deal. In his own announcement, Mana said he will oversee existing events for the foreseeable future and retain more than 15 acres in the Wynwood area.
III Points will return to Mana Wynwood on October 16-17 with a lineup featuring Four Tet, Charlotte de Witte, Flying Lotus, and PAWSA, among others.
