A Full-Circle Moment at Palm Tree Festival
Kygo surprised fans at Palm Tree Festival by bringing out legendary bluegrass vocalist Dan Tyminski for a tribute to Avicii. The duo opened with their own melodic collaboration "Heaven On Your Mind" before shifting into the iconic chords of "Hey Brother." When Tyminski took the mic to deliver the vocals he originally recorded for the track, the moment tapped directly into dance music history.
The Ultra 2013 Gamble That Changed Everything
Tyminski's voice became part of EDM lore in 2013 when Avicii made the risky decision to debut his country-meets-EDM sound at Ultra Miami, complete with live acoustic instruments and bluegrass singers. The set was divisive at the time, with many critics calling it a flop. When Avicii's True album dropped later that year, "Hey Brother" became a generational dance anthem and vindicated the creative gamble. Since Tim Bergling's death in 2018, these tracks have carried a bittersweet emotional weight for fans.
Carrying the Torch
Kygo, who has helped define modern melodic electronic music, delivered what felt like a deeply respectful nod from one melodic producer to the pioneer who paved the way. Hearing the original voice behind "Hey Brother" perform it live is rare, and the tribute resonated as more than nostalgia—it was a recognition of Avicii's lasting influence on the genre.
Kygo shared video of the performance on his Instagram. "Heaven On Your Mind" is available now.
