TL;DR

Laidback Luke will host a free kung fu class for beginners on the rooftop of Superior Ingredients in New York City on September 6, ahead of his DJ set that night. The Dutch producer, a six-time medalist at the 2017 Kung Fu World Championship, has previously blended martial arts with his music career during Miami Music Week.

The Dutch producer and DJ will host a free kung fu class on the rooftop of Superior Ingredients on September 6, just hours before his set at the same venue. Laidback Luke, who won six medals including three gold at the 2017 Kung Fu World Championship, is calling the session his "Rooftop Dojo" and has designed it for complete beginners.

Martial Arts Meet Dance Music

This is not Luke's first time merging his two disciplines. He held a similar class during Miami Music Week in 2017, and has spoken about the parallels between teaching kung fu and reading a crowd. "You watch the crowd and see what they're up to. Are they tired? Are they happy? Are they losing focus? And then you switch it up. It's the same thing I do when playing a set," he told the Miami New Times that year.

Luke has promised that by the end of the Labor Day weekend class, participants will understand how kung fu and raving connect.

New Music with Bright Lights

Luke has also released a new single with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Bright Lights, titled "HUMAN AGAIN II." The track arrives nine years after their last collaboration, "Paradise."

The free kung fu class takes place September 6 ahead of Luke's DJ set at Superior Ingredients that evening.
