A Voice That Defined an Era
Lauren Bennett, the British singer-songwriter whose breathy hook on LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" helped catapult the song to No. 1 in more than a dozen countries, has died at the age of 37. The track became a fixture of parties and sporting events for over a decade and placed her in Spotify's billion-stream club.
Career Across Dance-Pop Groups
Born June 24, 1989 in Meopham, Bennett began performing at 18 and soon became a founding member of Paradiso Girls, the dance-pop group assembled by Robin Antin, creator of The Pussycat Dolls. The group's 2009 debut single "Patron Tequila," which features Lil Jon and Eve, peaked at No. 3 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart and introduced Bennett to a wider audience.
She later joined another Antin project, G.R.L., with whom she toured internationally before the 2014 death of bandmate Simone Battle, which prompted a hiatus. The group reformed the following year with Paula van Oppen joining as a fourth member, and continued performing intermittently in the years that followed.
Mental Health Advocacy and Legacy
Outside music, Bennett spoke openly about mental health advocacy following Battle's death, working with the band to raise awareness among younger fans. Her former bandmates in G.R.L., Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen, confirmed her death Monday in a joint statement posted to social media. They did not reveal a cause of death.
Bennett is survived by her six-year-old daughter, Harlow.
