Medical School and Bass Music in Parallel
Tarum's degree from Creighton University School of Medicine is listed under his full name, Joshua James Canto Tarum, with Eagan, Minnesota as his hometown. A public Doximity profile identifies him as Josh Tarum, MD in Family Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. The achievement comes after years of juggling medical training with Levity's increasingly demanding schedule, a balance that shaped how the trio operated during their most critical growth period.
During Tarum's medical school years, bandmates John Hauldren and PJ Carberry frequently handled live appearances as a duo while Tarum remained involved in the creative process behind the scenes. The arrangement allowed Levity to maintain momentum even as one member completed one of the most rigorous academic paths outside music.
From Electric Forest to Festival Circuit
Levity's breakout began at Electric Forest 2023, when Hauldren, Carberry, and Tarum were asked the same day to fill in at the Honeycomb Stage. The unexpected slot introduced the trio to a wider bass music audience and set the stage for a string of major festival bookings including EDC Las Vegas, Coachella's Do LaB, Lollapaloola, and North Coast.
The trio's track "Flip It" has since passed 12 million Spotify streams, while artists including Zeds Dead, LSDREAM, Subtronics, and John Summit have incorporated Levity's music into their sets. The group is now backed by Ultra Records for releases and Position Music for publishing, with management from 2+2 Management and booking through Wasserman Music/Primary Talent.
What's Next for Levity
With Tarum's medical school commitment complete, Levity is positioned to operate as a full trio moving forward. The group has expanded their live identity through the Lasership shows, including sold-out dates at The Shrine and The Eastern, and will embark on the Tape B x Levity Summer Program co-headline tour. The milestone marks a new chapter for a project that managed to build a festival presence and fanbase while one member was completing medical training.
