KSHMR Marks the Milestone
KSHMR acknowledged the achievement on Instagram, writing "We made it to 1B." When the track was released in 2010, he was still producing under his given name, Niles Hollowell-Dhar, as one half of The Cataracs alongside David Singer-Vine. The duo produced the record for Far East Movement, while Dev provided the vocal hook that became one of its signature elements.
Her contribution originated from 'Booty Bounce', a track The Cataracs had produced with her earlier that year. They repurposed part of that vocal for 'Like a G6', helping craft the version that became a worldwide hit. The record gave Hollowell-Dhar one of his biggest commercial successes years before he launched the KSHMR project.
The Track's Chart Run and Legacy
'Like a G6' climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and held the position for three non-consecutive weeks. The achievement also made Far East Movement the first Asian American group to top the chart. The track arrived as electronic production, hip-hop, and pop were increasingly converging in the mainstream, introducing all three acts to a much wider audience.
The success led each artist down different paths. Far East Movement continued releasing internationally, Dev developed her solo career, and Hollowell-Dhar later left The Cataracs before launching KSHMR.
A Milestone More Than a Decade Later
More than 16 years after its original release, the track has now crossed 1 billion streams on Spotify. The milestone brings one of KSHMR's earliest major records back into focus and adds another chapter to the track's history.
