TL;DR

Liquid Stranger has announced Wakaan Festival will return to Mulberry Mountain, Arkansas, on October 1-3, 2026, for its sixth year. The Swedish producer reflects on the festival's unlikely origin as a viral fan-made flyer and how it has become a cornerstone of the Wakaan community, which has released over 350 records since its founding.

Liquid Stranger has announced that Wakaan Festival will return to Mulberry Mountain in Arkansas on October 1-3, 2026. The sixth edition of the camping festival marks another milestone for the Swedish-born producer, who launched the event after a fan-made mock flyer went viral in the Wakaan Facebook group.

From Joke Flyer to Annual Gathering

The festival's origin story is unconventional. Martin Stääf, the artist behind Liquid Stranger, recalls the moment a fan's satirical poster gained traction online. "One day a fan made a mock flyer for Wakaan Festival that started blowing up in our Facebook group," he writes in a new editorial. "My team and I looked at each other like, 'Wait… should we actually do this?'"

What started as a one-time experiment has become the centerpiece of the Wakaan calendar. Stääf describes the annual event as more than a music festival—calling it a space for art, creativity, freedom, and healing. The producer notes that many attendees refer to the trip as "heading home," treating it as a family reunion each fall.

Two Decades of Experimental Bass

The Liquid Stranger project began 23 years ago as a side outlet for unconventional electronic music during an era dominated by 4/4 techno and trance. A decade later, Stääf founded Wakaan as a label for artists who didn't fit existing genre molds. The imprint has since released over 350 records and built what Stääf describes as a fan base of "vibrant, intelligent, kind, and colorful individuals."

After years of relentless touring, Stääf has recently taken time off to recharge and reflect on the label's trajectory. He acknowledges that launching a record label was widely discouraged at the time, but felt he had nothing to lose.

Wakaan Festival 2026 will take place October 1-3 at Mulberry Mountain. Stääf says his team has been preparing to deliver the best version of the event to date.
