A Social Media Hail Mary Pays Off
When Mike Kindelin realized his sister's wedding reception was happening just a short walk from where Martin Garrix was headlining at the Huntington Bank Pavilion, he sent the Dutch DJ a direct message with a simple ask: could Garrix swing by the Chicago Planetarium on Northerly Island to congratulate the bride and play one song?
Garrix not only accepted—he brought Ed Sheeran along. The British singer-songwriter was in town for his own headlining show at Soldier Field the same night.
Private Performance of "Repeat It"
The two artists walked into the planetarium following their massive stadium and waterfront concerts and took over the DJ booth to deliver an intimate performance of "Repeat It," their collaborative dance track that was more than a decade in the making.
Video of the surprise appearance shows the wedding crowd visibly stunned as the global superstars commandeered the musical equipment for the impromptu set.
Sheeran's Wedding-Crashing Track Record
This marks at least the third time Sheeran has surprised newlyweds. He performed "Thinking Out Loud" at a Sydney wedding in 2015, then appeared at a Las Vegas chapel in 2023 to serenade a couple with "Magical" and sign their marriage license as a witness.
Garrix shared video of the Chicago planetarium performance on his social channels over the weekend.
