Martin Garrix and U2 Debut 'Fireflies' at Tomorrowland

The Edge joins Garrix onstage for surprise premiere

Martin Garrix brought an unexpected guest to his Tomorrowland set on Friday, inviting U2's The Edge onstage to debut a brand-new collaboration, "Fireflies." Garrix later confirmed on social media that the track would be released soon and shared a pre-save link so fans could prepare for its arrival.

The latest in a years-long partnership

The performance marked the latest chapter in a collaborative relationship between the Dutch producer and the iconic rock band that stretches back several years. Garrix and U2 previously collaborated on "We Are the People," the 2020 UEFA Euro tournament anthem. Garrix also produced "Your Song Saved My Life," a U2 track that appeared on the soundtrack of the animated Illumination film Sing 2. Bono, the band's frontman, has also lent his songwriting to Garrix originals including "Angels for Each Other," "Catharina" and "Weightless."

Release plans remain unclear

What remains unclear is where "Fireflies" fits into either act's plans. The song could stand alone as a single release, surface on a forthcoming Garrix album or find a home on U2's next studio record. The group's next album is expected later this year and represents their first collection of new material since 2017's Songs of Experience, following 2023's Songs of Surrender, an album of reimagined versions of older tracks.
