Miami's Nikki Beach to Close in August 2027

Nikki Beach, the South Beach institution that has anchored Miami's luxury beach club scene for more than two decades, will close its doors on August 6, 2027. The venue received a temporary extension this week as part of a settlement between the City of Miami Beach, Nikki Beach ownership, and Boucher Brothers, the company set to redevelop the site.

A South Beach Institution Since 1998

Located at 1 Ocean Drive on the southern tip of Miami Beach, Nikki Beach helped define the modern luxury beach club experience, blending live DJs, electronic music, oceanfront dining, and upscale beach culture into a single destination. The venue became a fixture during Miami Music Week and Art Basel, drawing visitors who associated it with the energy and lifestyle of Miami itself.

The site originally operated as Penrod's Beach Club in the late 1980s. In 1998, founder Jack Penrod transformed it into Nikki Café in honor of his daughter Nicole Penrod, who passed away at 18 years old. The concept later evolved into the global Nikki Beach brand, with locations across Europe, Dubai, and other major travel destinations.

Redevelopment Plans Move Forward

The property sits on city-owned land, and Nikki Beach's lease was originally set to expire this year. After a lengthy legal dispute over bidding rights and redevelopment plans, the city reached a settlement granting the venue a final 15-month extension.

Boucher Brothers and Major Food Group, the hospitality company behind restaurants like Carbone, plan to transform the site into a new luxury beachfront destination featuring multiple restaurants, beach amenities, and redesigned public spaces. According to reports, the future project could include Mediterranean dining concepts, Japanese teppanyaki rooms, and a Sadelle's Café location.

One Last Year on the Sand

Nikki Beach owner Lucia Penrod says the extension gives the company time to properly celebrate the venue's legacy. For longtime Miami locals, travelers, and dance music fans who visited for sunset cocktails, daytime house music sets, or major event weekends, the venue built a reputation that stretched far beyond Miami itself.

Fans now have one final year to experience the iconic beachfront destination before the property enters a completely new chapter in August 2027.
