Building Around the Original Vocal
For MoBlack, the starting point was Djanka Diabaté's voice. The original recording immediately stayed with him because of the emotion and cultural identity carried through her performance. "There was something timeless, raw and deeply emotional about the original," he said when discussing why he wanted to work with the song.
Instead of simply placing the original vocal over a new instrumental, MoBlack developed the production around it. The arrangement leaves space for Diabaté's voice while percussion and electronic elements gradually enter around it, allowing the vocal to remain the main focus from beginning to end. The extended version runs for just over five minutes at 120 BPM and is listed as Afro House.
Continuing a Decade of African Influence
The original Mounkera comes from Djanka Diabaté's earlier catalogue, giving the new release a history that reaches well beyond 2026. That background connects naturally with MoBlack's own relationship with African music. After spending around a decade living in Ghana, he continued incorporating those influences into his work as a producer, DJ and label head.
That connection has been visible across his recent releases. In 2026, MoBlack worked on music involving established African artists including Salif Keïta, placing Mounkera within a wider period of projects centred on African vocals and songwriting.
The track is out now through MoBlack Records, keeping Diabaté's performance intact while giving the song a new Afro House production.
