Search Data Reveals Geographic Divide
Ticketing platform SeatPick analyzed state-level search interest across 18 music genres over the 12 months ending in August 2026, assigning each state the genre for which it indexed highest. Pop dominated with 13 states, metal claimed 11, and electronic dance music held just one: Nevada.
The resulting map shows Nevada as a lone block in the desert, wedged between pop in California and Arizona and a wall of metal across the Mountain West.
Lady Gaga Tops Artist Traffic
SeatPick identified Lady Gaga as the top artist behind Nevada's EDM interest, a detail that reveals more about the limitations of the term itself than the state's club calendar. House, techno, and drum and bass were not measured separately, meaning a state with the most concentrated EDM economy in the country got flattened into one search term with a pop star as its figurehead.
The term EDM has long functioned as a mainstream catch-all, substituting for the genre-specific language the dance music community actually uses.
Las Vegas Drives the Numbers
With the entertainment capital in its borders, Nevada's affinity for dance music tracks with reality. Las Vegas has spent more than a decade building a robust EDM infrastructure, from EDC at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to the DJ residency circuit at Zouk, LIV, Wynn Nightlife, and other major venues.
The Strip books more dance music in a weekend than most states see in a year. It just took a search study to prove it.
