The Game Behind the Decks
LIFE LIKE A DJ is a browser-based game that shifts focus away from the turntables and onto the career mechanics most DJ simulators ignore. Created by Łukasz Zaranek, a producer and DJ with two decades of experience, the project treats bookings, touring, financial management, fan growth, reputation, and career pressure as core gameplay.
Players begin unknown, take small bookings, travel, release music, manage money and reputation, grow a fanbase, compete in rankings, and work toward major clubs and festivals, Zaranek tells EDM.com.
Failure as a Feedback Loop
Unlike rhythm games where failure is a dropped note, LIFE LIKE A DJ compounds consequences. A weak DJ set means a smaller fee, which stalls gear upgrades, which stalls the catalog, which shrinks the next offer. The design connects what happens behind the decks with what happens before and after the show.
The goal, according to Zaranek, is to model the profession candidly rather than sell the flattering fantasy that titles like DJ Hero, Monstercat's Roblox collaboration, or DJ Life Simulator have leaned on in the past.
