A newborn infant was found dead inside a portable restroom at the 2026 edition of Electric Forest in Rothbury, Michigan, according to CBS News. An employee of the restroom servicing company made the discovery Sunday morning while conducting routine maintenance on the campgrounds of Double JJ Ranch, where the festival is held.
Investigation underway
Michigan State Police have not revealed the exact age of the newborn, and it remains unclear whether the baby was born at the festival or abandoned on its grounds. Authorities said there is no known threat to the public, and the incident remains under active investigation.
Festival organizers respond
Electric Forest organizers addressed the discovery Sunday evening in a statement posted to the festival's Instagram. "Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you," organizers wrote. "@michstatepolice continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way. HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well."
This year's sold-out Electric Forest festival began Thursday and was scheduled to conclude Sunday evening.
