Second Collaboration for Festival Circuit Friends
Oliver Heldens and Will Clarke have released their rework of Sister Sledge's disco staple "Lost In Music" via Charlotte de Witte's Epoque label. The track marks just the second collaboration between the two producers despite years of friendship on the festival circuit.
Both artists run their own imprints and have racked up billions of streams between them, but their paths have rarely crossed on record. Heldens, the Dutch producer behind the future house sound that broke big with "Gecko" back in 2014, has since built out HI-LO as his techno-leaning alias and runs Heldeep Records. Clarke, the Bristol-born DJ known for his genre-blurring approach to bass and house, has spent recent years splitting time between his own UNIT(E) label and high-profile drops for the likes of Insomniac Records.
Road-Tested in Headline Sets
Both producers have been dropping "Lost In Music" into their headline sets worldwide, and the reaction on dancefloors has been strong enough to justify a proper release. The collaboration fits the brief of Epoque, the label Charlotte de Witte launched as an outlet for a broader, more melodic and groove-driven sound than her techno-heavy Kntxt imprint.
Signing a disco-sampling collaboration from two house and bass heavyweights fits the label's approach of pulling from across the dance music spectrum rather than staying in one lane.
Disco DNA for the Big Room
Sister Sledge's original "Lost In Music" has been sampled and reworked countless times since its 1979 release, but it keeps finding new life on dancefloors decade after decade. Heldens and Clarke's version keeps the disco DNA intact while filtering it through a more contemporary club framework, built for the big room moment rather than the radio edit.
"Lost In Music" is out now via Epoque.
