A Shift Toward Intimate House
The Swedish producer built his reputation on the massive scale of stadium anthems, helping define an era of EDM with "Million Voices." His latest track, "Part of You," scales back to unearth something more profoundly human than the hands-in-the-air anthems of that time.
Otto Knows trades festival mainstage energy for intimate, soulful house music in the new single, out now via Tomorrowland Music. The track features vocals from compatriot Mapei, whose lyrics explore the concept of how relationships leave permanent marks on our identities.
Tortured Vocals and Synth-Soaked Chords
Mapei belts with a tortured desperation: "Who said that things would get any better? I want to be a part of you." On the production side, Otto Knows proves he can command a sun-dappled rooftop dancefloor just as effectively as a massive festival stage through emotive, synth-soaked chords.
He says he'd produced those chords some time ago but struggled to find the right direction for the track before reaching out to Mapei, with whom he found immediate chemistry.
Finding the Right Direction
"What started as a few unfinished chords and an idea without a clear destination eventually became 'Part of You,'" Otto said in a statement. "Those are often my favorite records, the ones that take their time and reveal what they're supposed to be along the way."
"Part of You" is available now on streaming platforms.
