Porter Robinson and Ninajirachi Release 'WannaCry'

Porter Robinson and Ninajirachi have released WannaCry, the collaboration they first debuted at Coachella this April. The track is out now on NLV Records, more than 100 days after Ninajirachi brought Robinson onstage to surprise fans with the premiere. Since then, the pair have performed the single at their individual shows and reunited on stages in Washington, D.C. and Sydney, Australia.

A computer virus as love song

WannaCry takes its name from a 2017 cyberattack and adopts the perspective of the computer virus through its lyrics. The track opens with an upbeat intro and builds with Nina's vocals, taking a romantic spin with the line "I've got a charm, I wanna put it on your heart." Robinson sings the second verse, incorporating his experiences from the SMILE‎ :‎D album. The lead melody is catchy and the drops are full of energy and deliberately glitchy, computerized elements that draw from both artists' digital-age inspired sound design.

Hints of more to come

Coinciding with the track's release, Porter Robinson and Ninajirachi joined triple j Radio for an interview, discussing how the artists met, the Coachella premiere of WannaCry and their production processes. Throughout the conversation, Ninajirachi also hinted at "other stuff we made," leaving the door open for further collaboration down the line.
