Porter Robinson and Ninajirachi have officially released "WannaCry," a collaboration that merges Robinson's hyperpop evolution with Ninajirachi's genre-defying production style. Both artists contribute vocals to the track, processed through pitch-shifting and vocal manipulation techniques central to their respective sounds.
From Coachella Surprise to Official Release
The track first surfaced publicly on April 10, when Robinson posted a cryptic countdown to his website hinting at a surprise appearance during Ninajirachi's Coachella set. Hours later, Robinson crashed her performance to debut "WannaCry" in front of festival attendees. Since then, the duo has performed the track at EDC Las Vegas and during a back-to-back set at Sydney's Chinese Laundry, which also featured an unreleased G Jones remix.
Possession and Entanglement
After a brief vocal-chopping intro, the track launches into a distorted, synth-heavy drop. The lyrics explore themes of seduction turning into possession, with Ninajirachi referencing the 2017 WannaCry malware that paralyzed hospitals and corporations globally. She sings about intruding "through every undefended door" and declares, "I've got a charm, I wanna put it on your heart / I wanna cry, I wanna multiply more times." Robinson responds with "I know what you are / I've already been there," reflecting on his own destructive patterns. When their voices blend, the perspective blurs, illustrating two people caught in a cycle of absorption.
"WannaCry" follows Ninajirachi's debut album I Love My Computer and arrives as Robinson continues his exploration of hyperpop territory. The single is available now on streaming platforms.
