Reza Safinia has released "Stardusted Girl," the latest single from his double album 1/∞, due August 26. The track marks a continuation of the producer's shift toward merging the electronic and acoustic sides of his catalog, five years after his companion albums Yin and Yang split those worlds into separate releases.
Falsetto Synth-Pop With a Dark Edge
"Stardusted Girl" leans into syncopated bass and arpeggiated synths, anchored by a falsetto vocal that sits somewhere between Prince and Portishead. The production breathes and shifts, seductive and uneasy in equal measure. Lyrically, Safinia builds a cosmology around astrology and eclipses, framing a toxic relationship as something fated across lifetimes. The vibe echoes "Gold Dust Woman," though Safinia says the resemblance wasn't intentional.
A Song About Self-Reflection
The twist: the "cosmic" figure at the center of the song isn't someone else. Safinia has said the point was to expose his own weakness and find his way back to himself — the Stardusted Girl is actually him. The accompanying video literalizes that concept, using AI to morph Safinia into a female version of himself before the two forms merge into one.
Part of a Larger Concept
"Stardusted Girl" follows five earlier singles from 1/∞: "Nostalgia," "Kiss U On The Way," "Vapor," "Watching From The Wings," and "I Feel U." Safinia has described the double LP as a concept album processing the last five years — wildfires, addiction, cancel culture, and war, all filtered through dance music. He recorded portions of the album in Ibiza before finishing in Los Angeles.
