TL;DR

Roland has announced the GO:KEYS 3 Minion, a portable keyboard created in collaboration with Illumination and Universal Products & Experiences. Set for release in September 2026, the instrument features Roland's ZEN-Core sound engine, beginner-friendly tools, and official Minions artwork and character voices. The keyboard will retail for $449.99.

ZEN-Core engine meets Illumination artwork

The GO:KEYS 3 Minion is built around the same specs as Roland's standard GO:KEYS unit, including the company's ZEN-Core sound engine, a system implemented across many of its modern instruments. The keyboard includes tools aimed at new producers and casual creators, like a metronome, recorder and Bluetooth connectivity.

The panel features newly created illustrations from Illumination while playable voice sounds let users trigger the franchise's familiar squeaks, yelps and banana-fueled nonsense as part of their musical experiments. Roland has shared a sound demo of the keyboard's Minions noises to help potential buyers understand what kind of mischief the instrument is capable of.

Franchise context and positioning

The Minions originated in Illumination's Despicable Me franchise, where they serve as the henchmen of protagonist Gru, famously voiced by Steve Carell. Their slapstick humor and fictitious language helped turn them into one of the most recognizable animated creations of the 21st century.

The broader Despicable Me universe is recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's highest-grossing animated film series. The announcement arrives in the wake of the franchise's seventh installment, Minions & Monsters, which also functions as the third movie in the Minions prequel series.

Beginner-friendly approach

Roland has always made serious tools for serious musicians, but the GO:KEYS 3 Minion is not pretending to be a workstation for stoic purists. It's a real portable keyboard wearing cartoon overalls, designed to make the first step into music feel a little less intimidating.

The GO:KEYS 3 Minion will retail for $449.99 and is set for release in September 2026. Users can register for product updates ahead of the launch on Roland's website.
