Dutch producer SAMOH has released Fractured Society, a four-track EP on RPM by KNTXT, Charlotte de Witte's techno imprint. The release marks his second outing with the KNTXT family, following his February debut Changing Worlds EP on the main label.
The EP channels what SAMOH describes as a broken system shaped by exclusion and injustice into raw, driving grooves and darker acid lines. His signature blend of acid, techno, and trance remains intact, but the atmosphere skews dystopian.
From feeling to concept
SAMOH says the project began organically rather than as a planned statement. "I didn't start the project thinking: 'I'm going to make a conceptual EP about this.' It began more from a feeling while experimenting with a vocal sample that immediately gave me this image of a fractured world where people slowly stop knowing what's true anymore," he explains. Three tracks were created during the same period and shared a similar emotional direction, while one came from a separate project.
The title track is his preferred choice for live sets. "What I love about Fractured Society is that it carries a bit of that older raw techno feeling, detuned leads, groovy percussion, while the vocal really brings this mystical and emotional layer to the track," he says. He notes that the moment the vocal drops during a live performance tends to pull audiences deeper into the track's atmosphere.
Working from a nuclear bunker
SAMOH works out of an underground nuclear bunker in Rotterdam, where he spends most of his time developing his live set and refining his sound. "It's a place where I can completely disconnect from the outside world and fully focus on creating," he says.
He's currently working on a large volume of unreleased music, including an album planned for later this year and several collaborations. He's also developing a collaborative improvised live project with KETTING that pushes him toward a more spontaneous performance style. Summer plans include appearances at Awakenings and other events, though his focus remains on shaping the next phase of his project.
Fractured Society is out now on RPM by KNTXT.
