TL;DR

Electronic music producers have made numerous appearances in film and television, from Daft Punk composing and appearing in TRON: Legacy to Deadmau5 at a Gossip Girl fashion show. Other notable cameos include Steve Aoki in Arrow, Skrillex's animated character in Wreck-It Ralph, Calvin Harris in Entourage, Alesso in We Are Your Friends, Diplo in 22 Jump Street, and Tiësto in F1 The Movie.

Electronic music producers have appeared in film and television more often than casual viewers might realize. Some scored entire soundtracks before stepping in front of the camera, while others played themselves at fictional nightclubs or animated parties. The cameos range from brief background moments to scenes where the artist's presence shapes the setting.

Daft Punk Scored and Starred in TRON: Legacy

Daft Punk composed the full score for Disney's 2010 film TRON: Legacy before appearing on screen as helmeted DJs inside the End of Line Club. The French duo's cameo fits naturally into the club scene, with songs like End of Line and Derezzed tying their music directly to what viewers see. It remains one of the clearest examples of DJs appearing in movies in a way that connects both the soundtrack and the story.

Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, and Skrillex in TV and Animation

Deadmau5 appeared as himself in Gossip Girl Season 3, Episode 16, titled The Empire Strikes Jack. The 2010 episode featured the Canadian producer during Eleanor Waldorf's fashion show, with tracks including Ghosts 'n' Stuff, FML, Hi Friend, and I Remember woven into the soundtrack.

Steve Aoki played himself in Arrow Season 1, Episode 17, The Huntress Returns. The 2013 episode brought him into the opening of Verdant, the nightclub owned by Oliver Queen and Tommy Merlyn, connecting the series to a real electronic music figure without pulling attention from the storyline.

Skrillex was represented through an animated DJ character during the Fix-It Felix Jr. anniversary party scene in Disney's 2012 film Wreck-It Ralph. The film also featured his song Bug Hunt, connecting his music to the movie beyond the visual reference.

Calvin Harris, Alesso, Diplo, and Tiësto on the Big Screen

Calvin Harris appeared as himself in the 2015 Entourage movie, joining the film's long list of celebrity cameos in its Hollywood setting. Alesso appeared in We Are Your Friends, the 2015 film starring Zac Efron as aspiring DJ Cole Carter. His cameo comes during a pool party scene where Cole asks Alesso to take over the set. Alesso also helped Efron prepare for the role, making his connection to the movie stronger than a standard cameo.

Diplo appeared in 22 Jump Street, the 2014 comedy starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. His cameo takes place during the spring break party scene, where Diplo is shown DJing as the film moves into one of its biggest party sequences.

Tiësto appeared in F1 The Movie, the 2025 racing film starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. His cameo takes place inside OMNIA Nightclub in Las Vegas, where characters Joshua Pearce and Cashman are seen at a table during a set by Tiësto. The appearance also connects to F1 The Album, which includes his collaboration with Sexyy Red, OMG!

These cameos sit inside scenes where music, nightlife, or DJ culture already matters to what is happening on screen, making them more than celebrity add-ons.
