Return to Big Apple Records
Skream and Benga will return to Croydon's Big Apple Records on October 6 for a Spotify Listening Lounge session exploring the roots of dubstep. The shop gave a young scene a home for a darker, bass-heavy offshoot of UK garage, and the duo will open up about the emergence of the genre and "talk through the records that shaped them and the transition from UK garage into a sound that would go on to define a generation."
From South London Underground to Global Movement
Skream and Benga came of age in Croydon, where their early productions and DJ sets at FWD>> and DMZ established them as foundational figures in the dubstep movement. Their music pushed the emerging sound from South London's pirate-radio underground into wider electronic music culture around the turn of the 21st century.
Drumsheds Headline and New Single
The discussion serves as a prelude to a larger celebration. On October 17, Spotify will stage its first 'DIA/LOG' event at London's Drumsheds, where Skream and Benga will headline a night devoted to bass music. The lineup includes Plastician, MJ Cole, Special Request, Emily Makis, and SHY FX.
The duo released a new single called Gameshow today.
