TL;DR

Skrillex and MPH have released 'Mirage,' a UK garage collaboration out now via Disorder and Capitol Records. The track was recorded in one afternoon and samples Red Rat's early-2000s dancehall track 'ShellyAnn.' MPH has been road-testing the single at major festivals including EDC Las Vegas, Lightning in a Bottle, and Lollapalooza since May.

“messing around with no intent other than to see what came out”

One-Afternoon Session Yields Festival Weapon

Skrillex and MPH have released a new UK garage collaboration, with the two producers recording the track in a single afternoon. The session came together organically, when they found themselves "messing around with no intent other than to see what came out," according to a press release.

"Skrillex would do some bits and pass the laptop to me," MPH recalled. "I'd do some bits and, pretty soon, we'd married our sounds together."

Red Rat Sample Anchors the Track

The single opens with skittering percussion before introducing vocals sampled from Red Rat's early-2000s Jamaican dancefloor staple 'ShellyAnn.' Bright chords and a propulsive beat with a nasty edge drive the track forward with restless precision.

Festival Circuit Testing Ground

MPH has been road-testing 'Mirage' since teasing it at EDC Las Vegas in May, deploying the track at major festivals including Lightning in a Bottle and Lollapalooza. The collaboration fits into the arc of Skrillex's recent work as he continues to produce across the electronic spectrum, following June's genre-bending SOMA album.

'Mirage' is out now via Disorder and Capitol Records.
